INTEGRATION AND SERVICES FOR WIDE BANDWIDTH - INSEBALA
RER, 2004-2006

InSeBaLa, Integration and Services for Wide Bandwidth: Distributed Desktop for public administration, is a project financed from Regione Emilia-Romagna on 15 November 2004 with a duration of 2 years. At this project take part CNIT, Digicittà, Eurocom, eWings, Tecnotel, Tekmar, and manifested interest Albacom.Albs and Tre.A.Web.

InSeBaLa has 2 primary goals:

  • Integration and optimization of services and technologies available on the Lepida Network, the wide bandwidth network that interconnect, with various technologies (optical fiber, satellite link and xDSL), local administrations, universities and public offices of Regione Emilia-Romagna, with a support for redundant transmissions in emergency situations.
  • Definition and implementation of the Distributed Desktop object, that has to make possible, for each user, to find his own work environment, personal files and setting anywhere he's connected from. Besides each user has to be contacted, with advanced interaction modality, as VoIP and videoconference, anytime at the same manner.

At last the Distributed Desktop has to foresee support for e-learning and documents writing by multiple users at real-time.

Our contribution regards different aspects of InSeBaLa, first of all project coordination. Besides our job regards the study and analysis of possible integration techniques of network resources, identification of optimization parameters and implementation of an optimization library. We want also study possible redundant transmission techniques, with the aim of guaranteeing communications in emergency situations, and their implications over network performances. Regarding Distributed Desktop our target is to search for multimedia applications for this kind of pattern and their possible integration in a common platform.
